Hello! I am very new birder, less than 3 months, but I think Chester has nice diversity of habitats. While these aren’t "hot spots" like Hammonasset, there is Cockaponset State Forest, which can be accessed from Butter Jones Road (cross street is Rt. 148, west from the village). I also love to walk through the marsh off Dock Road, which is accessed near the ferry crossing. In Essex, Riverview Cemetery is on the CT River, which is good year round and during the winter, eagles are easy to spot from there. It’s off North Main St. Finally, RiverQuest Boat trips from Haddam, easy to find info online, is always fun and their Selden Island trip is usually packed with serious and experienced birders! The upcoming swallow trips are amazing too. Welcome to Chester!
