List,

If you are a conservative type and use a anchor scope of 7:1, then
twice the scope should keep you away from the rocks and most other
boaters.

But, I am really conservative because I like my sleep so I use 10:1,
and usually have no problem convincing people who arrive after me to
stay that far away if I am first in the area. If not, then i find an
area I can get 10:1, even if that me a longer tender ride.

But, if tied stern to to a rock, then some have been as close as 10
yards from me....

to another boat when dropping anchor...
