Museum PlayGuide 1 and PlayGuides 2
Part-time and full-time employment, approximately 20-38 hours per week
depending on candidate. This is not a seasonal position.Compensation
$12.35 – 14 per hour.
Children's Museum of Tacoma PlayGuides are the most public faces of the
Museum and responsible for providing positive, safe, and playful
experiences for our little visitors and caregivers. Playing with our little
visitors and their adults is the major function of this position, along
with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the Museum.
PlayGuide 1 Definition: PlayGuide 1 staff work in the museum during
regular operating hours. Duties include monitoring the galleries for health
and safety, light janitorial work, and engaging children and adults in
playful interactions. PlayGuide 1 staff may also be trained as birthday
party hosts and admissions clerks. Starting rate is $12.35/hour.
PlayGuide 2 Definition: PlayGuide 2 staff will be trained in all aspects
of PlayGuide 1 duties. In addition, they will receive additional training
to support evening programs like Parents' Night Out and Birthday Blowouts,
attend community outreach events, and occasionally support Play to Learn or
the Muse: A Children's Center on special projects. To be considered for a
PlayGuide 2 position, candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
Starting rate is $13/hour.
All PlayGuides will:
- Cheerfully and enthusiastically interact with visitors
- Be creative, spontaneous, inventive, flexible and able to adapt
activities for varying age ranges
- Understand that play is an important part of learning
- Promote the culture, values and mission of the Children's Museum of
Tacoma.
- Follow the Children's Museum of Tacoma's operational policies and
procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, dining area, lobby, storage
rooms and restrooms
- Contribute to a positive team environment
- Able to work day shifts, some evening shifts, weekdays and weekends
Summary of Experience:
- Previous experience working with children is a plus
- Experience in a customer-service related field given preference
- Previous experience with cash handling, working at a register, or in a
retail environment is a plus
Required Education and Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Experience or training in Early Childhood Education a plus
- WA State Driver’s License required for PlayGuide 2 candidates
- Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment
Physical Requirements:
- Constant standing/walking
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs.
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
- Constant computer/POS Register and bar equipment usage
- Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work
Compensation: Starting wage varies on position and experience, please see
definition above. Periodic increases upon satisfactory evaluation. This is
position does not qualify for benefits.
