TWL: Single-Arm Davit on Marine Trader 36 sundeck-any experience?

Vessel came with single-arm davit which fits into vertical post which
penetrates through sundeck roof and rests on sundeck floor.  Davit at
about 35 lbs. is too cumbersome to mount and dismount while standing on
sundeck roof.  Considering permanant mount of davit into its support
post.  Would lash it down so it can't swing while motoring vessel. 1)
Anyone have experience with this setup on this or similar vessel? 2)What
would results be in rough water motoring. 3) Presuming arm weighs about
35-40 lbs (above sundeck roof) + weight of 4ft.X 8ft. Achilles on top of
sunroof and vessel displaces about 20,000 lbs do you anticipate adverse
effect on stability?

The dingy would have Bob thats why I carry mine down low but the davit
would be almost an unmeasureable amount. 35# is 1/4
the weight of a person.

--Bob,
If permanently mounting your davit  causes excessive bridge clearance you
may try what I did.
My boat has a factory installed single arm  4 inch diameter SS davit that
is mounted to the main deck and extends to about 9 ft above the flying
bridge deck. This seems to be similar to yours.
It was one piece, in order to reduce bridge clearance , I merely sectioned
it and put a hinge in it abt 4.5 ft above fly bridge deck level. It folds
over extremely easily and rests on an aluminum crutch that I fabricated and
bolted to the rail. If you are interested I can  email a photo. No lashing
nor tools are are required to raise or lower
CCC.
LETS ROLL!
