Extralimital Note: From Glenn Williams and Co: Just over the line in
RI, there is a Ross' Goose on Yawgoo Mill Pond viewed from Bridge
Ridge Road in Exeter.  It was in a flock of Canada Geese on the south
side of the road when we saw it.  Thanks to Dan Finizia and Sue Talbot
for finding it.  Phil pointed out that it is only the third record for
RI.

From Jan Collins:
11/23/13 - Somers, 9th District/Hutton Rd -- 8 AM; 3 Sandhill Cranes
continue.  There were 2 hunters with goose decoys in the field on
Hutton so I saw the Cranes fly to the farm pond behind the white house
on 9th District. Then they flew to the adjacent field south of the
pond and started feeding.
9th District Rd with Denise Jernigan -- 9:45 AM; could not find the
cranes on the ground but while sitting by their last known field, all
of a sudden there they were in the air.  They circled a half dozen
times, getting ever higher each time and then headed south.  They must
know something about tomorrow's weather!

From Jamie Meyers:
11/23/13 - Somers -- The cranes were certainly not in the area an hour
later, or least they were not seen by several cars' worth of birders.

From Patrice Favreau:
11/23/13 - Somers -- searched the fields for Cranes around 1:45 PM for
30 min but got nothing.

From Frank Gallo with my CT Audubon class:
11/23/13 - Milford, Jonathan Law high school pond -- morning; 4 male
Eurasian Wigeon.

From Frank Mantlik:
11/23/13 - Milford, Lansdale Ave, Jonathan Law HS Pond (also
accessible from Lawman Rd off Rt 1) -- the 4 Eurasian Wigeons (along
with 156 American Wigeons, and numerous Gadwall and Mallards) remained
until 3:00/3:15, when two fishermen crashed along the pond banks and
flushed the entire flock. Virtually all the ducks headed east to parts
unknown. Maybe to Mondo Ponds, Milford? (Gallo agreed this was a good
bet.)

From From Annie and Mike Perko:
11/23/13 -  Colchester Yard -- 8 AM; y Blackbirds again,this time
feeding on White Millet in backyard.
Old Saybrook,  "Maynard's" pond behind Old Saybrook High School --
Male and female Eurasian Widgeon.  Parking is terrible along Ingrahm
Rd. so best on weekends to go behind school and walk in.

From SH Johnston:
11/22&23/13 - Farmington, Batterson Pond -- 4 (on 11/22) and 3 (on
11/23) RED-NECKED GREBES. On 11/22 I stopped at the boat launch toward
dusk, just in time to see four RN Grebes, very close to shore, make
their way into the marshy bit to the NW of the area, presumably for
the night.  On 11/23, I arrived a little earlier, and was able to
watch three birds for about 15 minutes. When dusk fell, they made
their way to the marshy bit, presumable for the night. Good chance to
see them there tomorrow (Sunday 11/24); excellent viewing if they hang
about this area.

From Jerry Connolly and The Audubon Shop Sat Bird Walk:
11/23/13 - Madison, Hammonasset SP -- 24+ NORTHERN GANNETS (if we had
remained longer that number would have soared), 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS,
14 SNOW BUNTINGS, PURPLE SANDPIPER, silhouetted ORIOLE species
drinking from a puddle on Willard's "causeway", and finally, a fun
sighting of a Merlin tearing apart a passerine while flying full-speed
west with many white feathers trailing in its wake.

From Tom Auer, Phil Rusch, & Glenn Williams:
11/23/13 - Stonington, Barn Island WMA -- VESPER SPARROW, EASTERN
MEADOWLARK.
Stonington, Saltwater Farms Vineyard (permission required) -- SNOW
BUNTING.

From Greg Hanisek:
11/23/13 - Durham, Greenbacker Pond -- morning; Pectoral Sandpiper.
Also Greater White-fronted Goose.  (See Greg's message on CTBirds for
details on Pectoral Sandpipers in November.)
