Our 40 foot twin screw Albin trawler needs new Cutlass bearings in the shaft struts. The reputable yard here in Seattle says that there are Cutlass bearings in the trough-hulls and recommends replacing them at the same time. I have read about people opening a can of worms trying to replace a bearing in the through-hull. Any words of wisdom from the collective pool of knowledge out there?
