One of the lesser known details of the Link 10 is the fact you can
monitor the voltage of a second battery with the Link 10.

There is no need to account for the amp hours in a start battery. All
you are really interested in is whether the start batter is up to snuff
with full voltage.

From memory I think it's the purple wire that us used. The manual does

explain it.

I installed a Link 2000 (controls my inverter/charger as well as
monitoring batteries).  If I were to do it again, I'd probably skip
monitoring the AH situation of the starter bank, but it is nice
sometimes to have a very accurate picture of the starter bank's voltage.

Dan,
We have a Link 10 monitoring the house bank only. The starting batteries
are isolated and I have a simple DC-Volt gauge for them. I can combine
the house and starting bank if necessary but I have never had to do that
in over 6 years on our present boat. The starting batteries, 2 x 8D,
have never failed to start the engines, 2 x 120 Lehmans, even after
sitting for 2 months without use. Save the money and get a Link 10.

Adding a Link 10 has been on the project list for a long time. My reluctance
to install one is the fact I have 7 different negative links to the battery
bank (420AH/AGM). There are two negative bus bars feeding off the battery
with 3 additional cables to the batteries. My thought process is to tie all
of these leads into one 600amp bus bar to have one feed to the Link's 500amp
shunt then one lead to the battery. Any thing wrong with this thought?

In case you're wondering - cables to:
Windless
Bow Thruster
3000K inverter/charger
Engine block
Primary breaker panel
Secondary breaker panel
Bilge pumps

At one time there was a monitor that used coils that cables were routed
through to capture the AH's instead of using a hard wired shunt like Link
10. Seems like SALT was the maker and looks like they aren't in business
anymore. Should have bought their system while it was available, but
procrastinated about it. Then again I would have had an expensive system
without any manufacturer to go back to with problems.

Appreciate any input.

Don:

I just installed a single battery bank monitor, Xantrex's succesor to the
Link 10. I don't see any point in monitoring my starting battery.

Steve,
Does your company still offer up an in-house battery monitor solution as in
the past?
