Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsHello again Dick! I LIVE in the Mobile Bay area, I don't just 'pass through
it'! Yes there are marinas on the Dog River. I've seen them and my impression
is that they are not near much of anything. I highly recommend Easternshore
Marine in Fairhope, AL on the RIGHT side of the Bay! Dog River was badly
damaged in the last hurricane, so was Easternshore, but all are back in
business. My choice of the Fairhope area is that it is SO GREAT! The marina is
close to town, they have a courtesy car or if you're staying there you can
rent a car. Fairhope itself is a 'destination' for many. After stopping there
I ended up moving here!
There is another suggestion...there is a brand new
marina called Homeport. It is on the ICW not far from where it enters Mobile
Bay from the east. IT is next door to Lulu's restaurant and is in Gulf Shores
AL. IT is more protected from hurricanes there. Lulu is Jimmy Buffet's sister
and Homeport is owned by her boyfriend. It is a 1st rate marina, but does not
have a 'yard' as do all the others.

Who will be delivering your boat? He
should already know the route! A delivery captain will probably go across the
Gulf and not be interested in sightseeing! I have a friend who might be
interested if you need someone.
