First, I have no connection with AT&T other than as a user of their services.
AT&T offers many cellular plans, at least it seems so for the ads in my
local newspaper. I have and have had for at least 3 years one called
"Digital One Rate". I am a consultant and I travel all over the country so
I need a plan that is truly national. With this plan I can make local and
long distance calls from anywhere there is cellular service with no roaming
and no long distance charges. In the early days I would occasionally get
roaming charges on my bill, but they were always removed when I called
AT&T. This has not happened for many months.
When I was shopping I found that this plan from AT&T was the only true
national plan. Other companies (Sprint for instance) advertises a
nationwide calling plan, but it is only free of roaming charges when you
are on their network.

We have this plan. No problems. For those who spend a lot of
time in Canada along the inside passage or the west coast of
Vancouver Island it's great because for 20 bucks more per month
Canada is included. We just add the area when we leave and have
it removed when we get back. Well spent money! Highly
recommended as the roaming charges for B.C. Tel can be
outrageous. One year, before we got smart, our cellular bill was
more than our fuel bill for the whole summer.
I also found that it pays to call up your cellular provider every three
months or so and mention another company when your service
year ends. They always seem to find extra minutes or other free
services for you to keep your business with them.

Would you also know if and how this plan works in Mexico? A friend of mine wants to extensively travel U.S. and Mexico this summer - an she's from Canada.
Appreciate any advise -- Tks, George
Verizon's National Plan is true using a tri-mode phone. I am almost never
without service and never pay roaming...except in the Bahamas where it does
work on analog.
