Todd "5 Star" helm seat, free to good home

I have replaced my Todd helm seat, "5 Star" model with fixed bolster,
color black.

These seats, new, run over $1,000 from Defender ($1,880 list). You can
see a picture and specifications on the Defender website (among other
places), Defender's item number is 401214.

The upholstery as well as the internal foam is in pretty good condition
considering the seat is 16 years only and has run some 23,000 nautical
miles over 5,000 hours. That said, I am replacing it because there is a
crack in the injection molded plastic base which supports the entire
chair. It was "working" when I removed it, courtesy of some Starboard
external reinforcement, but the crack will continue to spread unless it
is cemented, plastic-welded, or internally reinforced before the seat is
put back in service. The bolster was also starting to droop, and I
reinforced that with a piece of Starboard as well. (And, by Starboard, I
really mean an HDPE cutting board; I'm nothing if not frugal.)

I don't have the upholstery skills or other means to effect these
repairs on-board. But for someone with the skills and materials this can
be a good seat. Note that it is the seat only and does not include the
adjustable sliding base or a pedestal.

It pains me to just throw this in the trash, so if anyone wants to have
a go at fixing it up, it's free for the asking. I'm in Fort Lauderdale
through mid-April and it needs to be off the boat before we drop lines.
Pick it up from me here or feel free to have U-ship or another cruiser
bring it to you.

Photos of the crack and any other parts of the seat available on request.
