"How many of you all start your engine (maybe the first start of a
day) while standing in the engine room?"
Not me. Lee, being a straight-stick blackshoe with no engineering tours, I
just stand tall at the lower station and fire 'em up hoping for the best!
See the movie "CAPTAIN RON" for an image of my style.
Speaking of starter switches in the engine room, you do realize that means
you have to actually be in there with those noisy smelly beasts blasting oil
droplets onto your nice white yachting trousers, don't you?
Be sure to have starter switches at all conning stations. More than once, I
have had an engine die while maneuvering in close quarters. Being able to
restart in the blink of an eye was important then.
