Thank you all for your replies. Mary and I bought Jenny in Dec 2003 and
having enjoyed a summer of cruising the PNW in 2004, brought Jenny down to
SFO Bay that fall. We've been cruising locally and steadily bringing her up
to a high state of readiness to live aboard and go cruising full time over
the past 3 years. We've been really fortunate to have the financial stars
align this year and are now in the final stages of shutting down the house,
buying the last of the "essential" items for Jenny and moving aboard. I'll
be driving a truck full of STUFF we are either giving to the kids or putting
in storage in FL the first week in August, with stops in TN and FL to drop
off the goods. Our home will be Jenny with a nice piece of property on the
Intercoastal Waterway in GA as our return-to-land target. Fortunately we
rented the house in CA.
We really enjoyed reading Scott's report about their plans and moving
aboard. I can't image taking a new boat through the process of getting
everything right in only a year. I just ordered the Central America west
coast charts, Charlie's Costa Rica book, and the Rains book that was
highlighted by Scott and several others. Our plan is to be ready to head
south by Oct 1st. I just scheduled a final haul out with KKMI for
September 10th. We have friends (Poloma and Beverly S) now up in Alaska and
the PNW who we hope to join on their way south. I believe Scott has been
talking with them. Our long range plans are to amble down to the Panama
Canal over the next year, then probably stay on the Spanish Main during next
year's hurricane season. Then head up to FL via the Windward Islands.
From there we'll either go up the East Coast, but more likely (and if
finances permit) head for the Med. But who knows, we're not on a schedule,
and plan to become much more whimsical for the first time in our lives.
Also, I'll continue to work on and support BoatExec from onboard Jenny. I
enjoy this creative outlet and helping the industry in a modest way.
