OK, its time to rehab the paintwork of my wooden GBs inner bulwark. With
the handrail stanchions extending from the deck up and other interruptions
of the surface, it is a real PITA to sand, fill, prime, sand again, and
paint twice with Awlgrip Snow White. I often get as much paint on me as the
intended target.
While lying on my side on the deck amidst the sander dust and noise during
the initial prep work, I imagined the follow-on tasks, wondering if there
weren't some reasonable alternatives like an easy to apply latex paint in a
color like Grand banks beige. I semi-glossy coat in that color might not
show every crack and crevice that develops over the years in the wood and
might also be easier to touchup. I would have a lot less glare from the
inner side of the bulwarks too.
On the possible downside are things like durability and replacement efforts.
I really dont know anything about these kinds of house paint except for a
small area on the flying bridge console top I painted with a latex-based in
GBB color. Can a latex be sanded at recoat time if it has cracks and other
visible damage?
Anybody had occasion to change to a darker color on this surface or any
experiences with an easier-to-handle paint?
