There was a comment that fuel polishing is expensive. While one can spend
$6,000 on a fuel polishing system or more, one can also put in a simple
system that polishes fuel very well.
When I researched my system I found that many of the packages were
elaborate, automatic and could be used underway. These systems could also
be used as back-ups for the fuel pump, bypass of the normal fuel filters etc
etc.
My decision was to put in a simple loop using a Gulf Coast Filter, a couple
of Tees, a ball valve, a Walbro 40gmh pump and a toggle switch.
When the engine is not running I open the ball valve which lets fuel go to
the filter and turn on the pump. All my system does is take fuel from the
normal fuel supply hoses, run it through the filter and return it to the
normal return hoses.
When I pull the filters (roll of paper towels) and drain the water separator
I see evidence that the filter is working. Don't remember the exact cost
but my guess is around $1,500.
