Museum of Glass: What's Hot Now!

MOG Open 7 Days a Week through Labor Day http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/r
VASS WEEK 9

Flameworker Kari Russell-Pool Comes to the Hot Shop

Through Sunday, August 15
Presented in partnership with Pilchuck Glass School

http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/y  Week 9 of the 12-week Visiting Artist Summer Series http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/j  brings Kari Russell-Pool http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/t  to the Hot Shop. Kari considers herself primarily a flameworker. Her work is inspired by her roles of being a wife and mother and she strives to create pieces that are colorful, beautiful and narrative in nature.

Kari and her husband, glassblower Marc Petrovic, http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/i  work together in their home studio, sometimes collaborating but both retaining their own personal style. Kari makes the glass rods for her flameworking from the same glass  http://i6.cmail2.com/ei/y/16/028/C23/045736/images/tonic.jpg that Marc uses for his blown sculptures. "This glass does not take the stress of the torch work well but does allow a greater range of color variations, and the unique ability to be fused with furnace blown components."

During her time in the Hot Shop, Kari will work with the Hot Shop Team http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/d  on a number of designs including a new series of Banded Vessels (blown and severed vessels with an intricate flameworked composition inserted between the two parts); Beehives (blown glass forms enhanced with honeycomb inclusions); and exploration of new ideas in flameworked appliqués. Stop by this week or check out all the action via our live streaming video http://museumofglass.cmail2.com/t/y/l/mtjkjt/kdtyjdkk/h .
