There is a lot to be said for the KISS principle

Unfortunately, I purchased a factory built boat with the - now
required in the
USA - electronic controlled engine.. I can hardly wait for the first
problem... So to chime in with Bob, the simpler the systems the fewer
the
breakdowns...
Besides my boat, as a case in point:. A friend at the airport has a
late model
pressurized airplane with all the electronic and electromechanical
bells and
whistles... When he flips on the master switch the panel looks like a
pinball
machine... HIs plane is not flyable more often than it is - waiting
on either
some specialist mechanic or a rare part...
My clapped out, 1957 dinosaur of a plane is always ready to fly -
nothing much
to break down... And when it does (rarely) the parts are available
locally...
As when I had a magneto that suddenly started misfiring on a trip,
the local
mechanic looked at the shorted magneto coil, and said, "Ya know, I
think I've
got some used ones up in the attic." 45 minutes later I was back in
the
air... Simple and common is good...
