Area vocalist returns to the stage to sing

Gershwin, Gospel and Motown

South Sound vocalist James Caddell wowed audiences during his appearances on
the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra's
Sounds of the Season in 2008.  He walked onstage, towering over
six-and-a-half feet in his Stetson and boots, smiled,
and said "good evening" in his deep, rich voice - causing the audience to
break out in applause before he'd sung a note.

Caddell is back this month to join the TSO for his own complete symphonic
pops revue featuring a mixture of Gershwin,
Gospel and Motown.  Conducted by Harvey Felder, the program will include
such favorites as "Proud Mary," "They All Laughed,"
"More Than You Know," "Deep River," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "My Girl," and
"I'll Fly Away."  The concert, sponsored by
Marine Floats and Pierce Commercial Bank, will take place at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 21 in the Pantages Theater.
For tickets, $24 to $62, call (253) 591-5894 or (800) 291-7593 or visit
www.tacomasymphony.org.

James Caddell has extensive recording, Broadway, and television credits. He
completed the soundtrack to the highly acclaimed
PBS series the Civil War, as well as a collection of Christian jazz vocal
recordings. He has recorded his own Gospel CD titled
All Kinds of Worship and a Big Band CD titled For My Friends, as well as
several jazz recordings with Don Lanphere, internationally
known saxophonist. Mr. Caddell has one featured song on the Clarence A. Cox
Trio's CD Indigenous Groove. He spent four years
touring as a vocalist for Loretta Lynn and has appeared in numerous
television shows including those of Bea Authur, Rich Little,
Julie Andrews, and Melba Moore. He has toured with Andy Gibb and has had the
pleasure of performing for Presidents Carter,
Ford and Reagan.

At the young age of 15, James auditioned along with more than 1,000
musically gifted youth, and was selected as a member of
the "Young Americans," a gifted musical group of 30 that toured throughout
the United States and Australia. This young man with
the big bass voice brought the house down with a crowd favorite, "Old Man
River."

Mr. Caddell spent one year performing in The Pirates of Penzance on Broadway
and on national tour. His regional credits include
performances with the ACT Theatre in Seattle, the Coeur d'Alene Civic Light
Opera, the Riverside Opera Company, the Tacoma
Opera and the Group Theatre in Seattle. James has had the honor of
performing the national anthem at both the Seattle Mariners
and Super Sonics with the well known quartet the "Main Attraction"; and lent
his talents to National fund raising events, including
Medical Relief International, The Boys & Girls Club of America, and Antioch
Adoptions.  Locally, James is a well-known voice
in commercials for Key Bank, Taco Time and Oberto sausage.

The program's first half will include Gershwin's "They All Laughed," "But
Not for Me" and "Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues";
"More than You Know" by Vincent Youmans, one of the most oft-recorded songs
on the market; "She Needs Me Now" by Marks;
and orchestral music by Duke Ellington and Dave Brubaker.    The second half
will include a gospel medley featuring "They Call
the Wind Mariah," "Deep River," "This Little Light Of Mine," "A Closer Walk
With Thee" and "I'll Fly Away."  It will also feature a
Motown medley including "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "My Girl," "Just My
Imagination," "Skylark" and "Proud Mary."  The program
will conclude movingly with Jerome Kern's "Old Man River."

The orchestral arrangements for this brand new, never-before-heard program
are by Bo Ayars, and were created
especially for this performance.
