Below is the message I received from Steve Aguilar, the City Attorney for ABQ and the accompanying attachment.

Chuck:

I hope this finds you well. I wanted to give you a heads up about the launch of the new Albuquerque Community Safety department today, which is detailed on the attached info sheet.

The ACS department will create a third group of first responders, who will refocus resources across the City to send trained professionals to calls where police are not the best response in areas like mental health, addiction, and issues relating to housing and homelessness. We are engaging in a public input process as we develop this program over the next few months and will work with the public and all community stakeholders, but the general principles are to help better ensure that every person in our community receives the right response, at the right time. We have been doing several experiments/test projects over the last two years, and this announcement is the culmination of work across multiple City departments. I wanted to share and will continue to keep you updated as this concept develops.

Hope you are well and please reach out if you have any questions.
