Visitors:
Thanks to today's counters Kathy, Mary, Jim, Tom S., Keith and Alf.
Weather:
Winds were moderate to strong SW and temps ranged from 9C to 11C.
Raptor Observations:
Not much of a flight today with just 10 birds...though this included a
single Golden Eagle and a lone N. Goshawk.
Non-raptor Observations:
It was a very busy day at the Cliff -- for the local landowners!
Consequently today's observers did less "dickie" birding and more searching
the skies for raptors at the B&B. Nevertheless, we managed to find a few
highlights. While surveying the view from the observation knoll this
morning, Jim had a flock of about 50 American Pipits land in front of him.
They rested for a few moments and then continued their westward flight.
Mary & Keith found the usuals just inside the entrance to the woods, with
the highlights being 2 Fox Sparrows and a nice look at a few Blue Jays and
a Red-bellied Woodpecker amicably feasting on nuts, all together in the
same beech tree. Later, Jim checked the same area briefly and was rewarded
with a nice look at a Brown Creeper.
Still later, at the B&B, there were the usual Crows flying back and forth,
Horned Larks, Goldfinches, Starlings and a single Killdeer. One of the
banders stopped by for a chat and reported seeing a Yellow-rumped Warbler
at the Cliff.
A late afternoon walk from the Cliff to the Alley yielded a nice bit of
exercise and although bird-wise it was slim pickin's a couple of Meadowhawk
dragonflies were seen enjoying the sunshine, and staying out of the wind.
Other non-raptor / non-avian sightings for today included a White-tailed
Deer.
