TWL: Rainsticks as bilge pumps.

Saw those rainsticks being discussed earlier. We have some water guns
that we get at Academy in Houston (Sporting goods store) that make great
summer toys and bilge pumps. They're essentially a big syringe, about 2"
diameter and 3' long (closed). You pull the plunger out to suck up
water, then of course push it back in to eject it. I bought one for my
kid, but it turned out to be a darn good bilge pump too! Meets the USCG
requirements for an aux. dewatering device (well, so does a bucket!) You
can probably find one at your local sporting goods or pool supply store.
I imagine wal-mart and Target have them too.

Sounds just like the things I can buy up here but haven't seen
anywhere else. Besides as a de-watering device (it sucks up the
contents of a bottle of wine in one stroke) and to squirt kids with,
it can also be used as a fire extinguisher. I got mine mounted with a
clip (came with the unit) on the wall in the head and there is of
course plenty of water handy to suck up and squirt at a run-away
fireplace (yes, I have one and this time of year it gets used daily
with wood or coal)
