George,  I don't know if you finally bought a windlass. I did alot
of
research and ended up with a Maxwel VWC1200.  Finished the
installation last
weekend and I love it, all chain and works like a charm.  Had a combo
chain/rope on the last boat and hated it.

I don't remember what started this conversation. But I do have a
mechanical windlass which I shall install any day now - soon. My name
is PROCRASTINATOR. Meanwhile - as did the P.O, I yank and jiggle my
22 lbs Bruce on it's rode (all nylon) Oh yeah, I have a kedge which
is really a piece of anchor chain from a WWII landing craft something
or another, weighes at least 40 lbs and holds me wherever -
whenever...

Visited my frienly Canadian Tire Store and found  several electric
winches (for 4 by 4's) (12 v) and am wondering if those would not
make a very suitable windlass puller-upperer and with some suitable
pulleys also assist in getting dinghys, bodys, groceriues etc on
board. They do come in rustproof versions for a few hundred dollars.
Anyone ever thought of that???

George of Scaramouche

P.s: Canadian Tire Store for my below the 49th challenged friends, is
a chain store like Home Depot but also has automotive, things to cook
on and furniture to sleep in. Very useful but only in Canada you say?
