PC ANYWHERE

This raises an interesting question. Assuming one has a PC Laptop on the
boat and a desk top at home; what is the best and simplest way to keep them
synchronized on an occasional basis? I realize business people do this daily
or something but I am thinking off bigger time periods. Off cruising for 3-6
months say, come back and want to have all the old emails, letters, accounts
etc updated at home. Any easy to use software to suggest? Thanks

If you are just dealing with document files (not Outlook data) it is fairly
easy to setup a shared folder and then enable off-line file synchronization
between machines.

I've not found a good solution for keeping Outlook data synchronized between
two computers other than an Exchange server.  Some of the utilities I've
tried to synchronize between two machines running Outlook have not worked
well - lost messages, contacts etc.

There is another service called BeInSync that looks interesting for keeping
files available.

Good Morning,

You can configure Outlook to store its data file(s) where you can back-it-up
or transfer it to another system.

When you leave, copy the outlook file to the laptop and continue on with
outlook.  When you return to your desktop, copy the file back to the home
machine and your updated files are now there and you have a recent backup on
your laptop.

You can also do that with all your other data files so while you are
traveling you have everything with you.  There is a simple clone program
that makes this very easy and quick that I will share with anyone who would
like a copy.  Please contact me off-list if you want this utility and more
information.

Regards,

Alan

(SNIP) I've not found a good solution for keeping Outlook data synchronized
between two computers other than an Exchange server...Rich

I keep multiple "confusers" in sync by simply copying the "current"
outlook.pst file to what ever machine I want to be the "master".

I also create a separate PST file for vendor phone contacts, trawler list
"treasures" and ship's log and boat specific files.  I re-path the PST files
to a root directory called "E-MAIL".  You can have multiple PST files open
in a single Outlook instance.

In a prior life we were one of the first to migrate from MS-Mail to
Outlook/Exchange.  Since "the earliest Christians get the hungriest lions"
it was a character building experience.

To this day, the best source of Outlook tricks and info is
http://www.slipstick.com/ started by a lady who really knew her stuff back
when Christ was a Cadet...
