The impeller should be made of a nitrile material to last longer when
pumping oil. The Celestial had a Reverso  pump (with a nitrile impeller)
in it that I plumbed to each engine's drain plug with an Apollo shut-off
valve and a quick disconnect (QD) on the hose. ( I suppose that the
valve was really unnecessary, but I didn't want the QDs to leak and run
the engines out of oil.) I never had any problems with the system. Since
the drain plugs were at the very bottom of the pan, all oil drained out

  • I ran the pump until it only pulled air. While I never used it in this
manner, the Reverso pump could also pump fresh oil back into the engine
from a 5 gallon bucket. I preferred to put oil in a gallon at a time as
it was easier to the oil haul to the boat and down into the engine room
    in gallon containers.
