Discussion and technical support related to USRP, UHD, RFNoC
View all threadsI’m excited to announce the immediate availability of pre-release driver
software to enable use of the Ettus Research Universal Software Radio
Peripheral 2 (USRP 2) with National Instruments LabVIEW on Microsoft
Windows. With LabVIEW and Windows support, the new driver software
offers an accessible alternative to Linux-based Python and C++
programming for PC-hosted software defined radio (SDR), spectral
monitoring and other communications applications.
The pre-release driver is available for download on the National
Instruments website through this link:
http://decibel.ni.com/content/groups/join-group!input.jspa?socialGroup=1277.
When you visit the link, you will be asked to login to your ni.com
account and will need to register for a free account if you don’t
already have one. After logging in, please request to join the ni.com
community group “RT Communications & Signal Processing Algorithm
Design.” We will approve your membership in this online community and
you'll be able to download the driver, ask questions, and find new
examples.
The download includes instructions for installation, setup, and use of
the driver software and included examples. I've copied the software and
hardware requirements follow my signature line in this email.
Please note that this is pre-release software, and that a more complete
/ tested version of the driver is under development now. We are making
this pre-release software available now for those with high interest in
programming the USRP 2 in Windows. We are also interested in gathering
your feedback related to working with the driver and with the LabVIEW
environment for programming the USRP 2. Note that as this is pre-release
software, it should not be used in deployed applications, forward API
compatibility is not guaranteed, and functionality may be limited /
incomplete.
Sincerely,
--Sam

Software Requirements
* Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit (potentially works with other versions,
but this hasn’t been tested)
* National Instruments LabVIEW 2009 (or higher)
* LabVIEW USRP Driver Pre-Release (the software included with this
guide)
* Modulation Toolkit for LabVIEW is optional, but recommended, as it
is required by some of the examples included with this driver
software
Hardware Requirements
* At least one Ettus Research USRP2 (Universal Software Radio
Peripheral 2)
* USRP2 compatible RF daughter module. (The XCVR 2450 and WBX
daughter modules have been tested with this pre-release software.
Other modules may also be supported, but their operation hasn’t
been confirmed.)
* Gigabit Ethernet interface for your host computer (one per USRP2
recommended)
* Ethernet cable (one per connected USRP2, gigabit capable Cat 5 / 6)
* Host computer that meets the requirements for your version of LabVIEW
Matt,
I know this is mostly on the NI side, but do you have an idea of when
this will work with the N210? Also, is this seen as a windows only
option for the long term?
Thanks
Scott

It does already, it just hasn't had as much testing.
Also, is this seen as a windows only option for the long term?
Do you mean that your desired environment is LabVIEW under Linux? If
so, that has not been tested. The effort has concentrated on LabVIEW
under Windows.
