Now worriedly sitting here early morning 1800 miles from home and
looking
for a good diesel mechanic...

Any thoughts??

You may suffer from what folks call wet stacking.  This is caused by
operating your engines very lightly well below the recommended 80% power
at 80% rpm.

I would "blow" her nose out, by running 10% under whatever you get at
full throttle for a couple of hours.
