To anyone interested, and those whom have replied, we have been in St Maarten since 2004 living full-time aboard. During Huricane Season we stay in the lagoon

on a permenant mooring we've had installed. (Two H-beams driven into the lagoon floor to refusal with 1-3/8 stud-link passed through holes torched through them)The lagoon is about 12-15' deep everywhere. Over the years we've worked on the point of connection at the bow and have now in place this

arrangement: two large nylon straps with Kevlar chafeguards

(made by a company in KY) which connect directly to a custom made stainless shackel then directly to the studlink.  (pic shows old arrangement of 1-1/2 shackles prior to the custom stainless shackel) If anyone likes, most of these pics, and others, are at the link in our sig-line.
One bright point is that the winds will be from the right, East, and the top, North, of the pic of the lagoon, so all of the "big iron" that is in, and will  be comming today, the lagoon will be down wind of us. They are our biggest worry Re: dragging boats.

Thanks a bunch for the replys and for the good info. I will be getting my facemask out and we've been preping easy food. I have two anchors ready to deploy if needed and will rethink putting the dink on a shorter line. We rode out Omar though, and found that it liked being out about 20' which still puts it in the lee of the stearn. I've often though we couold really use a drouge attached to the stearn to dampen our swing but it could also foul and be a hazard if I need to run the engines. We swing a lot in a blow.

Thanks to all again, John and Susan

PS: we still have not committed to riding it out... still time left.
