I love Free Docks-and in enjoying them I have a value scale of best features.

Like avoiding docks where "chain locking" your vessel to dock/wall is
necessary to discourage local bar drunks from setting you adrift for laughs,
But beyond that.

The Good Stuff

Free Trash
water, electric, showers, laundry a discharge place for my scooter, floating
docks, other cruisers, things to do nearby, friendly locals, protection from
wave/tide action, clear visitor rules/directions/help

Its truly amazing how many places still offer this portal to their dirt and we
in turn provide dreams for their citizens.

Some of my best times have been at Free Docks-but by the end off the day-I
prefer to anchor out and sleep in peace.

Docks are what 99% of the boats are tied to 99% of the time, Best avoided and
considered a trap to cruisers.

Dead of Winter in Cabin John
50 days till splash from being on the hard
