Al,
The list of free docks on the ICW from Miami to Norfolk is a
short one.  Stuart,FL has a city dock, but recently changed the
rules to allow only a 4 hr stay.  Cocoa has a free dock, but we
haven't stayed there.  New Smyrna Beach's dock says no overnight
stay; but we've stayed there twice for one night with no
hassles.  Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach, SC  has a great dock
next to a tourist mall with room for 10 boats, and allows a
three day stay.  We've heard that Southport, NC has a tiny free
dock, but haven't tried it.  Washington, NC has a lovely free
dock for about 8 boats, with free electric, but it's 30 miles
off the ICW up the Pamlico River.  Oriental, NC has a nice small
dock for 2-3 boats, usually crowded.  That's all I can think of.

Enter the NY State canal system, and it's a whole new world.
Nearly every small town has a free town dock or nearby lock wall
where you are welcome to stay free, many with free water or
electric.  For the price of the season lock pass ($100 for boats
over 40'), you get free dockage for the whole summer.  For
details on these, see Skipper Bob's publication, "Cruising the
New York Canal System", $10.

Mark Richter, Still cruising on $25 a day.
