Wiley College Division of Student Affairs Receives Grant from Hogg Foundation for Mental Health
Wiley College is pleased to announce that our Department of Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness has been awarded a $54,000 grant from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. This grant will increase the College's mental health services.
As further response to the growing need for mental health services, the Hogg Foundation project funding proposes to address student needs with the following interventions:
Traditional counseling
Playback therapy
Excursions/cultural events
Student emergency funding to address non-academic barriers
Black Women's Mental Health Summit
The five outlined activities will provide multiple ways for Transition-Age Youth of Color and their Families (TAYCF) to receive emotional support and increase emotional skills. Additionally, the project will reduce non-academic barriers such as finances to ensure student success.
Wiley College is committed to the holistic well-being of all students. As evidence of this commitment, in 2018, President Herman J. Felton, Jr. created the Department of Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness (SHCW). SHCW provides comprehensive student mental health services and works closely with Student Support and Accessibility Services and Academic Affairs.
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health seeks to transform how communities promote mental health in everyday life, and the impact of history on the communities that they serve. The Hogg Foundation has been a major player in the mental health landscape in Texas since 1940-educating, advocating, and funding mental health programs of all sorts.
