Just a fast note on the last report of Redpolls at my feeders here in Harwinton. Today, the day after our ice storm, and my account of the flocks condition in the rain, I have new news. I saw only 6 Redpolls at the feeders today. The smallest amount of these birds in over 2 months!

They have been daily no less then 40 and up to 180 with average around 70.
Did most of the large flock decide to leave looking for better weather, or possibly a more abundant food supply?  I can not rule out also the possibility of a die off, but to this I have no proof as of today.
I do however feel a connection to this flock that has put their trust in my feeders and my neighborhood here in CT for these 2 months, and am wishing them the best.
I feel like a father who just became aware of loosing his kids to that big world out there........know the feeling?
