On Wednesday, April 13 at 7 P.M., Jayne Amico will be giving a talk to the Down-to-Earth Garden Club of South Windsor. Jayne will do a presentation on “Supporting Connecticut’s Migratory Songbirds.” Most of you are aware that Jayne operates the Mount Vernon Songbird Sanctuary in Southington. This event will be held at the Wood Memorial Library and Museum, 783 Main Street in South Windsor. All are invited; there is no charge for the program; there will be refreshments served after Jayne’s presentation. You can check out the Wood at woodmemoriallibrary.org. For those of you who have never been to this small private library and museum, you are in for a treat. There is always an art exhibit on display downstairs. The exhibition that will be showing at the date of this meeting is the barn and bird artist Burt Schuman (happy coincidence).
There is a collection of 120 very fine mounted bird specimens all done in the 1890s by Main Street resident Dwight Newberry (who's family owned the land that is now Station 43). These birds were all collected in South Windsor. There are also collections of local and Midwestern native American artifacts, some very fine period furniture pieces made locally, and quilts created by local quilters. Come early and see it all. If you can, come down extra-early and take a walk into the meadows and fields at either Newberry Rd (Sta. 43), or Vibert Rd just to the south (and just a few feet north of the Wood).
Jayne’s work supports the entire birding community; this is a chance for you to come out and support Jayne. You can check out Jayne’s website at therecoverywing.org.
