Concerning the NAR, I wonder how many followers there are who aren't
officially part of the group?
As far as the term passage maker (or Passagemaker), I think Captain Beebe
chose that name to distinguish his designs, meant for crossing oceans, from
coastal cruisers, which most trawlers (new in his day) then were. That is
not to say that any voyage of distance is not a passage, but the term
Passagemaker was one Beebe coined to use for ocean-crossing vessels.
