Below is a sample list of the regulatory issues that officials such
as the Coast Guard will want to check. The list shows where each item
is located and this list if used properly will demonstrate a level of
organization that few boats have, that will tend to impress anyone
who might board you. You will want to change each item to conform to
the conditions on your boat. If not a sailboat then without the
sailboat extras. This is really handy if someone who is not
intimately familiar with the boat is operating it.

Sailboat "My Boat", #123456

Flares - Next to Helm Console.
Ship's Documents - Waterproof pouch, behind flares.
Most Recent CG boarding sheet - Ship's Document.

Oil, Garbarge Placards - Inside of Outside Pilothouse Door.
Rules of the Road - Behind Flares.
Horn - Forward Outside of Pilothouse Windows.
Head Located Forward Cabin. ON Holding Tank. No "Y" valve. (Location
of "Y" valve).
Masthead Light - Front of Main Mast, 30 feet above deck.
Stern Light - On stern.
Red/Green Running Lights - Bow Pulpit.
Tri-Color Light - Top of Main Mast.
Life Jackets - Main Cabin (4).
Bailing Bucket - Engine Bilge.

Documentation Number - Welded in Hull, Main Cabin.
Ship's Name - On Stern.

If you are going out of country then another sheet with the list of
regulatory issues that have to be addressed when doing so.
