Subject: Report From Onboard Jenny

Thursday, February 26, 2009 2:54:45 PM
Location: Isla Saona Anchor
Latitude is 18 degrees 11.597 minutes north.
Longitude is 68 degrees 47.043 minutes west.

This weather observation was at Thursday, February 26, 2009 2:48:15 PM local
time.
Observation location: Isla Saona.
Latitude is 18 degrees 11.594 minutes north.
Longitude is 68 degrees 47.046 minutes west.
The air temperature is 84,  and water temperature is 0 degrees fahrenheit.
The forecast is Sunny.
The current weather is dry.
The sky is scattered clouds (10 - 50% clouds).
The wind is 10 knots from the east.
The visibility is 10 nautical miles.
The wave height is 1 feet with 0 foot swells.
The barometer is 1016 millibars and falling.

We're anchored in 25 ft of crystal clear water after a nice day's passage.
This is the first passage since arriving in Cartagena where I didn't think
the sea was trying to beat us  up.  What a pleasure.

Nicholas and I will stay here overnight and through tomorrow until around 4
or 5 PM.  Then we'll start an overnight passage up to Samana Bay if the
weather forecast holds.  The deal in the trade winds area is to make
passages at night even when they could be made in a single day.  The Van
Sant "Passages South" explains it all and is a must read for cruising the
islands here.  It is timeless in its discussion of the weather, waypoints
and routes, and island hopping strategies.  However, much of the
rest of the book is dated and he is heavily biased to the DR and especially
Luperon where he owns property.

The anchorage here is pretty and calm.  It should be a good night.  The
bottom is hard coral and sand and it took a bit of backing down before I got
really hooked up.  I'll take some photos.

All is well.
David
