We are looking at leaving Lake Huron's North Channel in mid to late August
and heading to Grand Isle, LA, south of New Orleans. I am looking for
thoughts both positive and negative about traveling down the lower Miss
instead of the TennTom. From what I have gleaned so far is it is about 200
miles between fuel/service stops. What is the current like in Sep, Oct, Nov?
Any websites where I could find that info?  Anything else you can add is
appreciated.

Rob,

Been there done that.

We have done the Tenn Tom 3x so decided to do the Mississippi river
route and it is very nice.
See an article about the trip on my web site. I also have a list of
places that we anchored and possible anchorages,. there are plenty.

Note that I  STRONGLY recommend that you turn out of the Miss. at the
Atchafalaya river in La. as there is NOTHING between there and New
Orleans. I mean nothing. Not even a decent place to anchor.

There are TWO marinas,  between Cairo, Ill , the beginning of the Lower
Miss and the Atchafalaya, river in La. ,Memphis and Vicksburg.  That is it.

On exiting the Miss at the Atchafalaya you will end up in Morgan City,
La and then run on dwn to Grand Isle.
I have an article on the Atchafalaya and a list of anchorages on my web
site.
Fuel is avail in Morgan City.

We really liked the trip and recommend it to any who are not bound to
marinas !!!!!!! We are not.  Take the detour out the Arkansas river to
Muskogee, Ok.  A good ride, only abt 400 miles each way and beautiful
mountains.

We are in Hastings, Ont now and will be in touch with you. Our Verizon
ph is not working up here---no matter what they said abt service!!
