Crock pot wattage: 200-300.

I often use use a crock pot and like Craig suggests, it goes into the
galley sink for safety.  One thing to remember when cooking this way,
raw beans such as red kidney beans and broad beans need to be pre boiled
for at least ten minutes before going into the pot.  The crock pot never
reaches a high enough temperature to destroy the toxin found in these
beans.
Pulled pork served in burger buns with some salad has been a favourite
with my crew. I recently discovered Po' Boys with Debris Gravy, they go
down a storm when we are at anchor.  At sea I modify them, serving the
beef on a thick slice of freshly baked bread, in a shallow pasta
bowl.with lots of gravy.  Easily eaten with a spoon.

Imagine you're on a long passage, (5 days or more) and food becomes one
of those things that break up the boredom. What, food wise would
brighten your day?

Without a doubt, my favorite on board is pulled pork sandwiches made the way we did 25 years ago on a salmon troller out in the Pacific..

Dice a sweet onion, add a pork loin, and a can of root beer (yes, that is right, root beer) place in a dutch oven (cast iron covered kettle) and place on the engine for most of the day. When done, add BBQ sauce and it is the best I have ever had. The skipper used to say that the vibration of the engine would tenderize it, but who knows.
