Hi all,
What is the lists thinking on the most durable vented washer/dryer combo
currently available. I think my splendid just croaked and my experience is
that they croak early and often. I'm hoping that there is something better
out there. I'm a full time liveaboard so it gets a fair amount of use.
If you have a favorite vendor in the PNW I would appreciate knowing that as
well.
Thx

Jim,
If they are available in America, Miele makes a superb combo
machine........
The price may make you gag but have owned one since 1993 and have
needed just one repair on it.

Miele is available. There is a distribution center in Vancouver where I have
discussed how to do special modifications for yachts. They have done
such things in the past for various large yachts with special
requirements.

Arild,
What "special modifications" are required for yacht use? Is this
primarily for the dryer exhaust or something else? Are these
modifications required for ALL washer/dryers used on yachts?
Thanks,
John Blair

"Miele" is German for "expensive"

I've no connection with the company. There, that's that out of the way :-)
In my dirt dwelling I have a Miele washer and separate drier, Both
machine have given excellent service over the past 14 years I've owned
them. The dryer needed a new motor about 6 months ago, after a guest
grossly overloaded it. That's the only attention either has needed. I
paid a premium but I believe I've saved that and more over the years.
If I have to replace my on board machines, Meile will beat the top of my
list.

Of course, I meant 'be at the top of my list'
P.
Does Meile produce a 120v combo washer/dryer?
In looking at their main web site:
http://www.mieleusa.com/products/index.asp?oT=45&cat=4&active=Our%20Products
&subm=Home%20Appliances&thirdL=Laundry%20Care
I can only find separate units.
Their 'Marine' site does show a combo unit - however 230v/50hz and 3.2Kw!

Al,
Their 230 V 50 hz works well on 220-240 v, 60 hz.
I know because I have used mine on 240 / 60 hz line while I was in
America from 1997-2004.
Now working on 230/50.
It never hiccuped.
As for the 3.2 kw, it heats its own water, and dries, so it does need
some power to do that efficiently.
The list has plenty of anecdotal reports that state that 120 VAC
dryers are a waste.

I tried the old way, some years ago, and it worked fine : put your clothes
in a fishing net with a soap bar in the middle of it, and go sailing.
As for drying, well, we would sleep with a wet t-shirt because it was so hot
at night, so wet or dry it didn't matter.
