[Ontbirds] OFO Convention 2014 Birds: 152 species

The total species reported by the more than 230 registrants for this
three-day weekend event (September 26-28) at Ottawa was 152.  All but
one of the species (Caspian Tern on the Kingston field trip) were observed
in the Ottawa region. The previous OFO Convention at Ottawa in 2006 tallied
138 species during two days of field trips.

Highlights for many attendees were Greater White-fronted Goose, Ross's Goose
and Cackling Goose. This year's impressive species total would have been
even larger if the high water levels reportedly not seen at this time of
year since 1973 had not resulted in much reduced shorebird numbers.

Participants enjoyed beautiful fall weather all weekend. Twenty-nine field
trips were conducted by 38 leaders during the three days. We thank the trip
leaders and the many others who put so much effort into making this a very
memorable convention.

The complete species list for this year's convention will be posted on the
OFO website (www.ofo.ca).

Hope to see you at the next OFO convention at Point Pelee on 2-4 October
2015.

Good birding.
