About a year ago, Sydney, Australia started a trend of
turning off lights for one hour in a show of support for
protecting the environment. Soon after, London and
San Francisco followed suit.

This year, 2008, the event is going global, with cities from
every continent, including the US, participating in what
promises to be the largest ever show of solidarity in
the world. The idea is as simple as it sounds.

On March 29, 2008 at 8:00p.m. everyone is encouraged to
turn off their lights for one hour. This worldwide movement
to turn out lights for one hour on Saturday, March 29th from
8:00-9:00 p.m. will send a powerful message about the need
for action to combat global warming.

The effort is supported by conservation groups like the World
Wildlife Fund and American Bird Conservancy.
