I have a '79 Marine Trader 36 DC. Does anyone know of an easy,
non-destructive way to remove the sliding doors? Even if I can remove the
bronze slide rail on the bottom track it doesn't
look like there's enough clearance. Am I missing something?
Thanks, Jim
Jim,
I have a '79 Marine Trader 36 DC. Does anyone know of an easy,
non-destructive way to remove the sliding doors? Even if I can remove the
bronze slide rail on the bottom track it doesn't look like there's
enough clearance.
First, let me explain the "depth" of my knowledge on this. I have
removed the doors on the Celestial. I believe they are made in the
same way as on your boat.
You should be able to remove the bronze rail at the bottom. To do
this, of course you have to move the door forwards and backwards to
remove all of the screws. Then simply pull the bottom of the door
out, off of the sill with the track still inside the door. Pull the
bottom of the door out away from the opening as far as necessary to
clear the top of the door frame. Be careful, those doors are
surprisingly heavy.
Installation is the reverse procedure.
Take care and be safe.

This procedure works for an Albin 43:
You should be able to remove the bronze rail at the bottom. To do
this, of course you have to move the door forwards and backwards to
remove all of the screws.
For a Monk 36, which may or may not work for your Marine Trader, I do the
same procedure, only on the top rail. Once the screws are out, pull the
upper half of the door hard and outwards to free it and top rail from the
hull, being sure the rail doesn't fly into the water, and lift up.
Reverse the process to install. Sometimes I had to use a hammer and wood
block to convince the rail it was going back into its original position.
