Hi Kathy,

I think that you are thinking of blackpoll warblers, which are well known for long flights out over the Atlantic.  Other warblers also cross large bodies of water too, but nothing quite as extreme as blackpolls.

Blackpoll migration peaks a bit later in the month, but lots of species are moving south already.  Hurricanes no doubt affect them all - but have been doing so for millenia.  Big hurricane seasons tend to be "good" for Nearctic vagrants in western Europe.  I'm not sure that these are hurricane related, but among other things, Ireland has had 2 yellow warblers, a northern waterthrush and a solitary sandpiper (the latter together in the same photos) in the last week or so.

I believe Blackburnian Warblers migrate out over water in one long flight to
places like Jamaica and islands in that southern area.  Does anyone know
approximately when this takes place?  I hope these storms don't affect
them.
