Hi all,
This posting is for those interested in going on the OFO trip to the Beeton Sod Farms and surrounding areas scheduled for tomorrow August 26th.
I have done a fair bit of reconnaissance over the last week, including today, and wanted to let others know that conditions for shorebirds are currently very dismal. There is very little standing water if any at all, and field conditions are extremely dry. This is not to say there could not be a Buff-breasted Sandpiper or several Baird's Sandpiper's remotely present, but perhaps not. Although the weather looks good tomorrow there may not be much present in terms of shorebirds.
As stated on the OFO website http://www.ofo.ca/site/tripsupcoming I will still be meeting others at 8:00 am at the described location: Patterson Sideroad and Highway 50 in the village of Palgrave.
I will be at this spot until about 8:30 am, to include anyone who plans on coming that could be running late.
Other areas that will be visited include the Schomberg Lagoons, Palgrave Conservation area and the Everett gravel pit.
Please note that this trip may not run a full day as well.
Thanks,
Dave Szmyr
Hello everyone
We are experiencing the same conditions in Niagara and Haldimand as Dave Szmyr mention in his post below. I’ll do my best on Sunday but I thought after seeing Dave’s post that it is a good idea to warn possible participants.
The meeting place is Rock Point Provincial Park at 8. The entrance fee is $14.50 per car. This area can be good for fall passerine migrants.
Fingers crossed
