Senior Art Show moves to Tacoma Art Museum here are award winners

Franke  Tobey Jones 2015 Art Show announces the winners of this year’s
competition. More  than 200 entries were received from artists across the State
of Washington according Dayton Knipher, curator of the exhibit.  Jurors
Becky Frehse,  Dane Gregory Meyer and Patsy Surh O’Connell, selected 73
artworks, including 2D,  3D and Photography.
TACOMA ART  MUSEUM  EXHIBIT SCHEDULE
The  exhibit will be on display at Tacoma Art  Museum Nov 11  thru Dec 7.
ARTIST RECEPTION
Third Thursday, November 19th from 5 to 8  pm.  On that day,  admission to
the museum – and the art exhibit – will be free.  There  will be a juror’s
panel offering insight into this year’s field of entries  highlighting their
tough deliberation in a very strong field of  artists.
2015 SENIOR ART SHOW AWARD WINNERS
Presence – Michelle  Friars
Michelle Friars was awarded Best of Show and People’s.  Friar’s piece –
"Presence" was a compelling portrait of a woman seeking comfort in her
grief.  Congratulations  Michelle!
An oil on canvas by artist Janyce Sukow titled “Abandoned” took first
place in the 2D category, and a finely crafted paddle by Phil Hulse – painted
by  Kathy Thurson with a Native American motif titled “Raven Steals the Sun”
took  first place in 3D art. “Conflict” a photograph of eagles battling
for dominance  by Dan Suckow took first place in photography.
Other winners were:
2D Art
2nd place - “San Francisco 1930,”  colored pencil by Denise Mac Donald and
3rd place - ”Mercedes” oil on canvas by  Judy Prisoc
Honorable Mentions went to Ruth Bravetti  “Communication 2”,  Harold W.
Johnson “Calm in the Quay” and Judy Prisoc “Locomotive  5030”
Photography
2nd place - “Remembering Hiroshima” by  Mike Waller and
3rd place - ”Just Take Me Home” by Hary  Longstreet
Honorable Mention went to Char Davis  “Splash”
3D Art
2nd place - “Soothing” by Carol Stockdale  and
3rd place - ”Commitment” by Irene  Osborn
Honorable Mention went to Kazumi Divens-Cogez “Mr.  Rabbit”
In all, 14 awards were given, with more than $1,200 in prize  money.
“I  think the judges were impressed with the depth of the submissions and
the fact  that we included photography, and sculpture,” curator Dayton
Knipher said.
Visitors to the Tacoma Art  Museum show are encouraged to vote for their
favorite artwork to receive the  People’s Choice Award which will be presented
at T AM as part of the artist’s  reception on the 19th .
Most artwork in the show is for sale.  To see all the  winning artworks,
