Just looked through the diesel fuel system section in the ABYC Standards and
Recommended Practices book and saw nothing about mandatory fuel supply tubes
from the top of the tanks. The standard says if you have a gravity supply it
must have a shut off valve. The standard says sight tubes are OK also as long
as they have shut off valves. Top mounted supply tubes can dump full too if
they are not equiped with a shutoff valve or anti siphon device. The anti
siphon device is required on gasoline systems.
