Hi If you go the eBay route, the FTDI chip set (as mentioned in the links below) is very much the one you want to get. There are several other chip sets out there. I have yet to see one that's as solid as the FTDI's. Even better... using the free programming utility on their website you can set the data lines (& handshaking if you need) to inverted. Then there's no need to add an inverting stage to the VP UART.
