It has been mentioned that the Grand Banks 42 is the most popular model but
the 36 is not far behind. It started as a woodie and then went to plastic.
Later in the production series it was redesigned to increase the length to
36'10" on deck and increase the beam to 12'8". It is a heavy displacement
vessel for a 36 footer (26,000#s) and has a good A:B ratio, making for a
comfortable ride and a seaworthy vessel. When we went looking for a 34 - 38'
trawler type vessel, we looked at all the vessels in this range and chose the
GB because of quality workmanship, top notch fittings and equipment, good side
decks to allow easy locking and docking and a great bow anchor handling system
that was standard. It also handles very well as a single. It fitted the bill
for our family of four (two teenagers) and we have lived aboard for over a
year on the Great Circle trip including the Bahamas.
So the GB 36 Classic get my vote as one of the great all time trawlers at an
affordable price.
