Virginia Rail and Wilson's Snipe flushed while walking the edge of the marsh at high tide. 2 juvenile White-crowned Sparrows. Also 1 Bobolink seen and photographed by Bill Wallace earlier in the day in the phragmites near the small wooden bridge. From Ryan MacLean: 10/22/13 - Greenwich, Audubon Greenwich -- Had our nearly annual October Orange-crowned Warbler halfway up the left side of the field next to the hawkwatch in the morning. This is the side of the field closest to Riversville Rd which seems to usually produce atleast one OC every year. So not all that surprised. From Paul Desjardins: 10/23/13 - Broad Brook, Mill Pond -- morning; 5 Pectoral Sandpipers. From Tom Murray: 10/23/13 - Easton, Trout Brook Valley -- 18 American Pipits in orchard. Also a Vesper Sparrow and two White-crowned Sparrows, one of which was a striking full adult. Hiked from Bradley Rd to the orchard. Tried to go in off Norton Rd but Easton PD has put up no parking signs. From Paul Carrier: 10/23/13 - Falls Village, Cobble Rd -- 7 Rusty Blackbird. ?????, Beaver Dam Rd, Pond -- 1 Female Redhead; was much lighter brown than female Ring necks, also had bill ring, 90% sure. From Frank Mantlik: 10/23/13 - Stratford, Stratford Point -- 1 Vesper Sparrow, on weedy dirt mound along entrance drive. Stratford Greenway (Beacon Point Rd) -- 1 or 2 Vesper Sparrows. (One behind Deluca ball field.) Main St (south end / Rt 113), fields across street from airport crash fence -- 4 Eastern Meadowlarks, 1 Bobolink. Community Garden (Connors Ln) -- Winter Wren. From Doug Beach: 10/23/13 - Simsbury, Simsbury Farms Golf Course -- Around 4:30 PM; one Vesper Sparrow along the east edge of the Apple Barn parking lot; just to the west of Hole 13. From Frank Mantlik: 10/22/13 - Stratford, Broad St, Creek near Stratford Marina -- LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER with Short-billed Dowitcher. Milford, Silver Sands State Park -- 2-3 Vesper Sparrows in southern- most "sparrow lanes" (near salt marsh) of grassy overflow parking lot. Also male Ring-necked Pheasant.
