how to recycle a vhf with dsl

I removed an Icom vhf with DSL from my boat a few years ago. I have no use
for it. If I leave it on the recycle table in our marina and someone takes
it, that person might accidently trigger the distress signal on the radio.
Since the mmsi number is registered to me that would trigger a sequence of
unfortunate events.

Can anyone suggest a way to recycle the radio? There is no way to disable
the dsl and reprogramming costs more than the value of the radio.  I hate
to just throw it in the garbage.

Sell it to someone in a country that doesn't stuff up international
standards :). By that I mean countries that permit reprogramming without
third party involvement.
We inherited a VHF and the manufacturer sent through the recode sequence
and specific radio serial no unlock code. Was free.

Not sure this went out correctly - forgive me if you got it more than once.

Richard,

Here's a post that has a lot of info about DSC and MMSI, hopefully it will
help you and everyone else.  Just a thought, I'd keep the radio, seal it up
in a seal-a-meal bag and stow it away as a backup.  If you ever needed it
the spare just might be "priceless".

Good luck,
