St. Augustine to Fernandina

I have done Charleston to St. Augustine and vice versa outside. Both times a
beautiful run, about 27 hours, and saved a lot of time and distance. On the
way north we had only planned to go to Fernandina, but once out there and
with a good weather window, we altered course for Charleston. Fernandina, of
course is an easy day's run. You have to be careful in the inlet at St.
Augustine, although exiting seemed to be easier than entering. The sand bars
shift and so do the buoys. For that reason they are small and hard to see.
It is best to have calm water to do that inlet. Telephone Towboat US in
advance and they will give you current information. Do it by phone rather
than on the VHF. The inlets at Fernandina, Savannah and Charleston are all
Class A, big ship, inlets and easy to run.

Hope this helps.

The question is current state of anchoring, not marinas, at Ferd.
