Where can we see what your power catamaran for ocean-voyaging will look

like? Does the designer have it up on Web?<

We are just getting started on the design, trying to decide how small we
can make it and still  retain reasonable function.  Catamarans have a lot
of interior space for their length, but  dedicated engine rooms take up
proportionally  more of that space than in a monohull, as they are not
often double-decked in smaller sizes.  Engines under tall aft bunks are
space-efficient with easy access,  but create other problems.  Etc.

The original specs for the trimaran included routine communting with the
weather between Hawaii and Puget Sound.  This range is harder to acheive in
a power cat of reasonable size than in a comparable tri, so I am not sure
we will be able to retain it.  The near-term use of the boat is
island-hopping around the edges of the South China Sea -- Taiwan,
Philippines, Indonesia, Maylasia,Thailand, etc.  We had also hoped to
cruise the coast and rivers of China, but that appears infeasible.  I have
a short discription of the legal problems involved if anyone is interested.

For those interested, Kurt Hughes has a very sleek powertri with
retractable floats (amas) and a powercat on his website at
http://www.multihulldesigns.com.  At another extreme, the British Navy
is experimenting with trimaran warships http://www.trimaran.dera.gov.uk.

Aloha,
Michael Rowe
